About PPIE

Pleasanton Partnerships in Education Foundation (PPIE) is a non-profit, 501(c)3 foundation that supports all schools in the Pleasanton Unified School District. Since 1987, PPIE has raised over $4 million dollars for our schools through corporate partner donations, special events (such as the Bon Appetit culinary gala) and community-based fundraising efforts.

Starting in 2009, in response to the drastic budget cuts in education, PPIE stepped up to manage a grassroots fundraising effort to restore programs that were to be eliminated. The first campaign was the "I Love Pleasanton Schools" initiative (2009/10) followed by the CORE campaigns (2010/11 & 2011/12). In the spring of 2011, it became clear that PUSD was going to have ongoing budget deficits and a more structured fundraising approach was deemed necessary. At this time, the PPIE executive board agreed to establish the Education Foundation Committee (formerly the School Advisory Board) made up of parent/staff representatives from all school sites to develop a more formal approach to the community fundraising effort. The Education Foundation Committee created the PPIE Giving Fund which operates as a fundraising campaign from April of a given year through March of the following year. PPIE is currently in the midst of its second PPIE Giving Fund campaign.

PPIE's mission is to support the students and faculty of PUSD by funding programs threatened by state budget cuts. In the last five years alone, more than $23 million has been cut from the PUSD budget, resulting in a per student reduction of about $1,600/year. This 22% reduction in PUSD's general operating budget has resulted in larger class sizes, staff reductions (including teachers, counselors, tech & library support, and reading specialists), and less investment in technology.

As an education foundation, PPIE, can fund district wide staff-based programs and services, which cannot be solely funded by donating to individual school sites. Last year's Giving Fund drive raised nearly $300,000 for the current school year which helped to restore tech support and literary coaches (formerly reading specialists) for elementary schools, tech support and library hours for middle schools and counseling, technology and additional sections at the high school level.
